Food near todd beamer high school7/31/2023 ![]() However, what rich irony that Barack Obama's former chief of staff now finds himself on the wrong end of a union shakedown. It is unacceptable that Chicago's students have nobody to teach them and that their parents must scramble to find alternate arrangements for their children. The culprits have salaries well in excess of the workers' fair market value, absurdly generous benefits and unaffordable pensions that the private sector hasn't seen in decades. If Chicago's impending fiscal disaster sounds familiar, it's because three major cities in California have already been bankrupted by the same sort of unreasonable demands by their public sector unions. (Chicago public schools' budget deficit is set to exceed $1 billion next year). However, that is not nearly enough for them they demand an unconditional 4 percent annual increase over each of the next four years, regardless of individual performance or the city's ability to pay. The average salary for the striking teachers is a ludicrous and unsustainable $75,000. It is virtually impossible to overstate the impropriety of the current Chicago teachers' strike in a city whose 9.1 percent unemployment rate is well above the abysmal 8.1 percent national average. borrowing Chinese money to finance offshore drilling for Brazil so as to import their oil rather than drilling our own supplies. Importing ethanol from Brazil is as outrageous as the U.S. Now with the same conditions, in top performance with regular maintenance using 10 percent ethanol gas, my car gets only 28 miles per gallon. My 2000 Buick with 80,000 miles yielded 36 miles per gallon at highway speeds of 65 miles per hour using real gasoline. The effect on food supplies is serious, but the deceptive value as a fuel additive is as bad, given the studies that show production uses almost as much other fuel supplies to produce it as it produces. ![]() I was happy to see the editorial decrying the mandate requiring ethanol use as motor fuel. Meanwhile, my wise, conservative neighbor goes to a good state school knowing she can't really afford a private school, majors in engineering, studies hard, gets a B+ average, gets a good job and for all her hard work and wise "shopping around for a good education she could afford" has to pay off all her loans.Īs someone who went to a state school he could afford, this doesn't seem like a thinly veiled ploy to get students to vote Democrat does it? Nah. So I could go to Berkeley, pay an astronomical tuition I could never afford to pay back, major in dung beetles with a C average and, surprise, I can't get a high paying job so most of my loans are forgiven. They contrast this with the Republicans by saying Mitt Romney thinks students should "shop around" for the "best education they can afford." I found Democrats intend "to manage federal student loans so that their payments can be only 10 percent of what they make each month." I heard references in various speeches during the Democratic National Convention about capping student loans based on income. (For the courageous passengers and crew of Flight 93, Sept. ![]() I'm proud to have known you even from afar as you and your posse look down from the stars. So here's to you, Todd, as I toast your life and continue to pray for your children and wife. With his head held high, alive with pride, an order of "kick ass" on the side. You foiled their plans by giving your lives you showed the whole world how an American dies. Ordinary people in a bad situation, 30,000 feet in commercial aviation.īut you bonded to act and act you did, charging the cockpit where the bad guys hid. My hero then, my hero still today, Todd, there's no telling the lives you saved. Eleven years gone, but I still remember when you stamped al-Qaida "return to sender."
